The Coach House
The Coach House (Unit 35) entrance is from the courtyard garden that opens off the parking lot.
The “Coach House” (Unit 35) is a separate two story two bedroom home connected to the main hotel by a 30 foot stone wall replete with the gates the horses and carriages used to enter through and the vent from the blacksmiths forge
It can sleep 6 as it has two bedrooms and a double size pullout sofa bed in the main living room.
Unlike the majority of the main hotel building it’s decor is Early Canadiana with pine floors, barn beams separating the living from the dining area, and exposed stone. Yet it contains the most modern of kitchen and zone heating and all the convenience and creature comforts we have come to expect.

The entrance door opens into the living room with a fireplace. To the north on the first floor is the fully equipped kitchen which was originally the top of the line display kitchen in the showroom of an upmarket custom kitchen maker. The first floor also has a dining area, powder room and a window air conditioner and double sofa bed. . The heating is via gas hot water controlled by two separate thermostat zones, one for the living/dining area and the other for the kitchen.
The two bedrooms are upstairs with the bathroom in the middle. The master bedroom has a queen size bed with a thermostatically controlled fireplace, large LED TV slaved to the Living Room TV, window air-conditioner and door that opens onto a large deck overlooking the garden and the river . The heating is via gas hot water controlled by a separate thermostats zone dedicated to this bedroom. The second bedroom has a queen size bed and a skylight and window air conditioner. The heating is via gas hot water controlled by a separate thermostats zone dedicated to this bedroom.
The bathroom has a modern glass shower and a deep soaker health tub of the sort used in therapy which is superior to a Jacuzzi. As with the powder room below the faucets are gold as distinct from polished brass.
The fact that this has a small window on the second floor opening onto the lane which is now Water Street and evidence of a post arm going out to the north over top of it I believe the top floor was used to store feed for the horses. The first floor might’ve been used by the grooms.

Rose Garden
When I purchased this property, this building was a cold and primitive gift shop. I made several alterations to convert it to residential.
First I cut openings through the 18 inch south stone wall upstairs to create a bedroom with a sun room and downstairs to add an additional living room window. Stone walls of that era consisted of an inner wall, an outer wall, with the cuttings and left over pieces between creating air pockets and thus a degree of insulation. It predates Portland cement so ground limestone and horsehair was used between.
I created an upstairs bathroom complete with separate shower and health bath and a downstairs powder room. I purchased the top of the line display kitchen and managed to fit it in downstairs.
Some partitions and tiling and installing two corner gas fireplaces on thermostats for heating backed up by electric baseboard completed the transformation.
I retained some of the original uncovered stone walls to retain the Early Canadians period ambiance.
To control energy costs I installed hot water baseboard heating in 2016 using 4 thermostatically controlled circulation pumps thereby allowing 4 individual heating zones separately controlled.... each bedroom, the living/dining area and the kitchen.
The result is a cozy home replete with all the most modern conveniences and technology and yet have any ambience of our early Canadian forebears but without their hardships.
